- Get your supplies together
You will need the following:
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton balls/swabs
- Cuticle trimmer
- Nail buffer
- Nail trimmers
- Nail file
- Cuticle/hand cream/lotion
- Nail polish
- Base coat
- Top coat
- Clean, cut and file your nails
Use a nail polish remover and clean your nails with a cotton ball or swab. Try to use one without acetone – it can damage your nails. Cut them to the desired length and file them neatly.
- Buff your nails
Use a white block of stick-type nail buffer, or a pad-type nail buffer and buffing powder. Don’t buff too much; perfect edge-to-edge flatness is not necessary.
Fill a bowl with warm water and a few drops of soap. Soak your hands in it for a few minutes. Use a nailbrush to softly clean the nails to clean them of any dirt and soften the cuticles. Do not go overboard with the brushing.
- Prepare your cuticles
Dry your nails and apply a cuticle cream. Using a cuticle pusher, gently push back the cuticle. Never push too hard, or cut your cuticles. Remove the extra remove when done.
- Apply hand cream or lotion
With a hand cream or lotion massage your hands. Let your hands absorb the cream. You can do this for about half an hour.
- Apply a base coat
You can use a clear base coat or a nail hardener for this. Let it completely dry.
- Apply nail polish
Roll the nail polish bottle between your hands for about 10 seconds. Begin painting using a thin coat. Try to paint the entire nail striping down from the center towards either side.
- Let dry!
Let your nails dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Do not apply a second coat (if you need one) before this time.
- Apply a top coat
Apply a clear topcoat for a hard, smooth, and scratch-free finish. Let it dry completely. Enjoy!
